A letter from the Editor-in-Chief
France may have given birth to the moving image, but for the best part of the last century, cinema has been a predominantly American form of entertainment. Under the Hollywood sun, movies have grown up to be an economic wonder.
But the world of film is changing for ever. Today, that change is fuelled as much by the Yen and the Euro as the Dollar. International is no longer 'foreign'. Any notion that cinema belongs to one self-sufficient territory, no matter how large or pervasive, is just no longer true.
Money, talent, partners - films and their audiences - are increasingly finding one another across this international landscape.
Which is where Screen comes in. International is our world.
To us, 'International' means the world: Europe, Asia, and the United States. Indeed every territory that seeks to make or exploit films that travel.
But, be careful; 'International' does not mean 'one marketplace'.
Screen celebrates the territorial and cultural differences that make the film business so fascinating. It understands International for what it is: an interlaced collection of markets, regions, niches and untapped wells of potential. Each in constant need of informed analysis, wide-angle interpretation and local expertise.
Screen is your map - your guide. The only reliable hope of keeping track of the ever-shifting trade routes that connect this global enterprise.
Screen is the International voice of the film business.
